Fashion and Glamour Gallery

Caliente’

Hello to all of my followers, friends, and visitors! Just a quick note to all of you that currently, my Instructor is keeping up busy with portraiture and fashion imagery. For those of you who more prefer my Landscapes and Seascape, many more of those coming soon! Please bear with me as I try to hone my skills with this style of photography. Thank you in advance!

For all you fashionistas, fashion designers, designers, and wardrobe specialists; please take a moment to offer any constructive criticism that will help be to deliver better quality imagery for you. Photographers, as always, your input is deeply appreciated. I am truly “shooting in the dark” as far as camera angles, lens choices, and location selection. I am simply going with my gut instinct on what I think might work well for the image. Post processing was geared for more of an “edgy” look (as opposed to portraiture), so let me know if this works or if it is a “no go” in the world of fashion. Thank you so much to everyone who has been kind enough to follow my plunge into this new career path! I had no idea this path would be so consuming yet filled with wonderful caring people! Thank again and have a great wekend!

Did I ever mention about how much I just love the light at sunrise? Chelbie and I had just finished shooting on the beach with the rising sun over the ocean as her background and we were driving back in to civilization to grab some MUCH needed coffee..when we spotted this old boat dock jutting out into the marsh. The light was incredible, so I asked if she could just jump out and run to the end of the dock and turn around. This was the first exposure I took, she didin’t even want to put her shoes on. She is a true girl from the country and wanted to be as natural as possible in some of her images.
For everyone who believes they need all this expensive gear (now I know for some imagery, there are many items I could use to really bring a different look and feel to this image), but, i really like this capture. The only equipment I used (or just grabbed while I chased after her! lolol) was my Nikon camera nd my lens (thank goodness I still had my trusty 70-200 2.8 VR attached to the camera) I photographed this back in the summer, and I am SO looking forward to warmer weather soon.

Laura

Sometimes, when the light is right and the camera position is right, and the exposure is right you get the most beautiful images. BUT….sometimes…if you pay attention, a photographer can actually capture the beautiful soul of a person regardless of the light, or camera angle, or exposure…just being there at that moment and being ready to press the shutter release.
As you can see, I removed all the color, the background and foreground, the scenery at the location, and still, her soul just comes shining through. As most of you know, I am recently retired from the military and have become a full time “college boy”, studying for my BA in Photography. Well, with all the math, English  design, and research work…I am painfully short on maintaining my photography skills (or, shutter release anxiety!!). So, when Laura asked if I could take some images of her wearing her mother’s wedding dress..of course I agreed. Then, she wanted to know if would mind shooting the images ..ON THE BEACH…near sunset….really??? NOW I was really excited about the photo-shoot  While Laura is not getting married anytime soon, I really had a chance to play around with camera angles, lighting, and even some editing tricks and ideas. I hear her and her mother are quite happy with the results (bonus!), and I am thrilled to be back out on the beach at my fav time of day, doing what I love to do. Several of her images are quite lovely (both color and black and white) but this one, just stood out to me to share with everyone. I hope you enjoy the image, and feel free to check my gallery of the entire shoot with her.

Travel- Sheldon Church Ruins

Please be kind with your comments guys…I am still trying to learn this world of HDR and still retain the realism of the shot. This is a compilation of five exposures to try and keep the highlights in balance and the details in the shadows. This image was shot at the Sheldon Church Ruins on the way to Beaufort, SC. This area is marked as a Historical Site..but, that little old site marker is the ONLY thing marking the lcoation of the beautiful area. It is said that many, many weddings are held here and there is a phone number available to reserve this site for such events.
Doesn’t just looking at this make ya want to take a sip of some fine Mint Julip or some Sweeeet ice Teeea? lolol..lucky for me a had some sweet ice tea, ’cause is was sure hot out there! I do have to give credit to those grand shade trees though, VERY comforting sitting in thier shade with that southern breeze blowing though….

A Storm Rolls In…
During my visit to Garmisch, Germany, I was able to capture this image of a mountain located near the Zugstpitz. As storm clouds rolled in over the moutain peak, I tried to capture the clouds as they rolled down on my side of this amazing landscape. You can also see two seperate ski lifts dwarfed by the sheer size of this mountain, and the ski lift’s power and transfer station..a massive structure, is also dwarfed.

Location: Garmisch, Germany
Equipment used: Nikon D300, Nikkor 80-300 VR lens, and a circular polarizer filter.

Landscapes and Seascapes

An image of the valley looking and winding almost two mile to the Zugsptiz. All I knew for sure was the sun was already up and I had a long way to go to get up to the summit (and grab that piping hot gourmet coffee!), and time was wasting! grabbed this shot and hiked full steam ahead for the cogg train at the base of the mountain (hey, I like to hike, but when you can take a cogg train….c’mon guys!).

Location: Garmisch, Germany
Equipement used: Nikon D300, Nikkor 70-300 VR, and the sun.

As always, this image is available for purchase as wall art (Mouse pads just added to the Merchadise tab on my website!) Mountains Meet the Sky –
So there I was, hiking, stuck on a mountain top in Germany. Armed only with a Nikon camera and a telephoto lens, the horrors! The only saving grace I could find was a four star Cafe’ on the very top of this wonder, but more importantly, they served fresh piping hot gourmet coffee! OH yeah…bliss in the sky I assure you!

Equipment used: Nikon D300, Nikkor 70-300 VR lens, and cold weather gear!
What was I thinking? Top of the world (and very inexperienced as a photographer), and did NOT bring a wide angle lens! Lesson learned, the hard way. I don’t know if I will ever be able to return to this wonderland, but the experience will last for the rest of my life.

Another image with only the light of dawn for a main light. A soft silver reflector used for fill light but as you can tell, it just wasn’t enought, I definately should have fired a stobe on this one.

Equipment used: Nikon D700, Nikkor 70-200 2.8 VR lens, solft silver reflector, and the light of sunrise over the ocean.

Phoebe on the beach:
Have you ever looked through your view finder, and wham! you just knew it, or better yet, felt it. That you “got the shot” right there, no in depth post processing, no cropping, no anything? Nearly every shot I took in that brief quickly fading last 10 minutes of light, was just like that. Phoebe was absolutely nailing the looks, the poses, the expressions…and mother nature was casting THE most perfect light on her. I can honestly say that good communication, good karma, and good creative chemistry all came together for this shoot. All of those elements are absolutely essential to capture exactly what you and the model (or client) is looking for. In the case of personal and private portraiture, I have found that establishing trust, confidence, and adding a true element of fun greatly enhances every single session I have conducted.

Model: Phoebe
Location: Myrtle Beach, SC, USA
