Post cards from the road

Storm clouds as seen from the deck of our “house on the hill” in Gatlinburg, TN, USA.
This image is from a different time than the present, but I bring it to you now to show that while storm clouds will always be appearing in our lives, when we devise a way to look at them in the positive, a different light, a new perspective…we might just be able to find true beauty in nearly every aspect of our lives. Enriching our souls to fight the gloom, the depression, the dismay and oppressive troubles of every day life.
Sometimes, this ability comes only after a Life Changing Event. For me, that event was Afghanistan (x2, but I promise, once was plenty enough to do the trick). I promised myself that if I EVER made it back out and back home, I would spend my time surrounding myself with only the most beautiful things in life…after seeing things in this new light, I find beauty everywhere! Sometimes, it is not simply what we see, but rather…HOW we see (and percieve) it.

Post cards from the road

Sunrise in Gatlinburg, TN, USA
Every year (at least once, sometimes twice, sometimes more…) I take my wife and all the family able to get free time for the trip, to “the cabin on the hill” in Gatlinburg. Every morning brings new light, fresh air, and a new look/ outlook on where we are, where we are going, where we have been, and…how..we have been. These are the same mountains, the same deck and chairs, the same lone tree, the same house, the same family, and yet..it is we, who have changed, matured, changed our outlooks, our views on life, our values, our percieved needs versus our percieved wants. Things do change, either adapt and overcome or, get used to taking some hard licks and crushing blows. Maybe one day, we will all learn to reach out, look at things differently, appreciated the time we have now as a gift (“ain’t that why they call it the PRESENT anyway?”) lolol…and enjoy the challenges we face, grow from each of them, and truly begin to LIVE our lives…our souls refreshed and resiliant!

Post cards from the road

Folly Beach, SC, USA looking at the Morris Light House
This reminded me of the storms of life and how many we go through. For me, the rocks seem to hold my courage and resolve firm and sturdy dispite the massive volume of trials and life’s many complicated and overwhelming tides of troubles and woes. And just like the ocean tides, troubles seem to ebb and flow the same. How we deal with those life challenges truly form and shape who we are today. The light house takes the form of our values, morals, and many of the absolutes we believe and cherish in our life. Just as surely as it guides ships and voyagers from certain disaster, our very own souls will do the same of us…if we only take those few moments..sometimes…to look for our own direction, see our way clear of our past and present troubles, and sail on into this glorious gift of life. Embrace our fears and while reaching out…joining together, and build a sturdy bridge of hope and inspiration for others to see, realize, and overcome so many of hours of loneliness and sorrow. For even in our darkest hour….soon, the sun will rise and give a new day, a new chance, a fresh shot at our resolve and our chosen paths of life.

Sunrise at Folly Beach, SC, USA – DAY 1
Okay guys, I know this is not my standard of work on images, but hey…I spent MOST of the sunrise just sitting back and enjoying the sounds of the ocean, the beach, and the spectacle of light and color as they all played an amazing (and much enjoyed!) symphony for me, my camera, and my steaming cup of caffinated sanity and bliss.

Oh, and many thanks to ALL of you for visiting and commenting! I will be getting to all those replies and thank yous soon!

Travel

Sometimes,
there is nothing better for a soul than a good road trip. There is just no real way to decribe the feeling when you end up taking the long way around, on a back road…a road less traveled. The kind of journey that allows you the chance to slow down, to smell the honey suckle on the vine…and to actually see…smell, taste, touch, enjoy…the life you are living.
Sometimes,
We fail to stop or pause in our paths of life. We pass by each other at a blinding speed, blurring our visions, distorting our perspectives, the small miracles of life flash by us…barely noticed if at all.
Sometimes,
We should listen to our souls. Treat ourselves to some old fashioned goodness. Spend a moment with Father time, Mother Nature, Sister Peace, and Brother Happiness.

I know this post is not my usual manner…I will be back to pure imagery soon…but for now my friends, my soul…needs some time. Have an awesome weekend! And if your on the East Coast , watch out..I am heading for a sunrise over the ocean with a hot cup of coffee and a sunset glowing in that magical golden light.
