Simply Chelbie…..
I had paused the photoshoot of Chelbie in order to change out lenses, after attaching my long lens to my D700 I looked up and saw this unposed scene of Chelbie. Without warning I grabbed this shot and Chelbie was kind enough to allow me to post it. I do just love those candid images, even on a planned photoshoot.

As we remember our fallen….have a safe Memorial Day.

Charleston, SC, USA, Night photography
More to come, but wanted to share this one with everybody..
This image to me overall is nearly exactly what I was going for. However; in my excitement of all of the conditions being right for this shot….I made a major technical error……I left my camera cable release 15 floors down and half a parking lot away! I fired this one manually (hence the trail of lights in the image), and then I remembered….hey, why not use the camera’s self timer? DUH? well, by the time the fog lifted in my brain and I actually applied that change, the half of the bridge went dark…(I had NO idea they turned off the lights on the bridge!)

Location: Charleston, SC, USA

Equipment used: Nikon D700, 70-200 2.8 VR lens, Iduro CT213 tripod, Induro BDH2 ballhead. Camera settings: f/18@ 30s, ISO100.

Abigail just has this way of…sensing…what a photographer is looking for, this was the second pose she did for me in this setting, and bam, “the shot” I was looking for. Can’t say enough about her, she is such an artist at heart and knows how to move to reflect emotion. I hope this shot does her some justice.

Calypso…aka: Abigail
I had an idea, but I did not have the photoshop skills to do this right. The only photoshop here is turning everything except Abigail to black and white. Everything in the image was really there…even the outer rain bands of a hurcaine due to make landfall late the next day somewhere along the East Coast.
This was a mad scene trying to get this shot, very dark skies, lots of movement in the scene, even with fill flash (off camera) the shutter speed needed to be at 1/60th of a sec. Abigail did her best to make my vision come to life, maybe one day I will finally have the skills to do her justice for all her hard work and dedication! As for now, I hope you enjoy the image…and yes, I am actually going to college next month to learn how this kind of image needs to be accomplished (including photoshop)! lolol…

Location: Folly Beach, SC, USA
Equipment used: Nikon D700, Nikkor 70-200 2.8 VR lens, one SB9– off camera flash with dome diffuser, a shower cap and a towel to keep the camera and flash as dry as possible in the seaspray and incredible humidily and allllll of the wind!

Pathways….
I shot this image (back when I was just a novice at digital photography) on one of my hikes in Garmisch Germany. As I was really clueless on proper exposure and graduated ND filters, I shot this bare through a lens and a Nikon D90 camera. I had to use some HDR processing (luckily I was at least smart enough to shoot in RAW), and it was the only way I could bring out the details of what I saw. I hope it is not too over processed for you all, just taking a walk back through some of my old files and found this, wanted to share, enjoy!
